McDonalds STAR TREK MEAL (1979)

The only meal approved for your kids by the United Federation of Planets. Wow.

  1. Wow, indeed. I still have one of those boxes, a bit crushed over the years, but still readable. Mine's the one featuring the Klingons on the outside, including the comic of the Klingon cruisers confronting the Intruder cloud. I even have the 'special prize' that came with it: in this case, a pair of glittery iron-on patches, one of Lt Ilia and one of the movie version Enterprise/Starfleet logo (you know, the delta shaped thingy on the shirts).
I'd completely forgotten that there were five different box designs to collect--er, I mean to choose from. I wonder if anyone has an online archive of them?

  2. I remember this promo as a kid and it was the first news that I had of the new movie. I had the box with the transporter cartoon on it -- and I was horrified when it showed the two people dying in the transporter accident. It was a bit shocking to a nine-year old. I also remember the iron-on prizes -- I had my mom put them on my Star Trek Underoos. LOL

  3. I believe these were the first Happy Meals.

  4. According to Wikipedia, the "Happy Meal" actually debuted a few months earlier at U.S. McDonalds franchises. However, the Star Trek Meal was the first movie tie-in Happy Meal promotion.

  5. I remember the one with the Klingon speaking in Klingonese. That really blew my nine-year-old brain (LOVED those Klingons!).
